CVT Transmissions

A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is one type of Automatic Transmission. CVT Transmissions are generally both smoother and more fuel-efficient than the traditional automatic transmissions, CVT Transmissions and Traditional Automatic Transmissions are technically automated transmissions systems and neither use a clutch pedal.

CVT Transmission Repair and Service

CVT Transmissions use a system of hydraulics to manage the intense pressures placed on the pulleys and this fluid must be changed regularly. Nissan recommends fluid changes every 15,000 miles. The maintenance schedule extends well beyond 100,000 miles with no mention of additional needed maintenance or replacement, the first time a pulley slips inside a CVT, the transmission is permanently damaged and needs to be replaced.

It is recommended that you get the transmission fluid changed every 30,000 miles. Transmission fluid lubricates the transmission, ensures that it does not overheat and keeps the gear changing smoothly.
